American Gothic in Toddler’s version

My final project in Illustration History at Seneca College, Toronto, was a replication of historical artwork in the style of my favorite artist.

In order to replicate American Gothic by Grant Wood, I chose the style of Anoosha Syed. Moreover, I wrote an essay about Anoosha and her work and was impressed by her diversity awareness.

As a mother of a child of color, I appreciate her efforts to address this social issue through children’s literature. The book “That’s Not My Name!” by Anoosha Syed instills pride in children for their unique and diverse backgrounds.

In my rendition of American Gothic, I swapped out the original adults with two adorable toddlers who make awkward faces when their parents request a photo. Thank you @foxville_art for being my inspiration ❤️🙏
